The introduction of information in the National Assembly of Armenia started in 1995, with the provision and installation of the necessary equipment and of the appropriate staff. First of all we have created the simple program used the database of library catalog.
The information system was established in 1996. Today it is accessible in the local network of the NA of RA and it consists of the system of the parliamentary documents, the juridical information system and e-mail.
Now the building of the NA of RA is cabled with an Ethernet network, to which are connected about 48 PC's and about 40 printers. Network with Ethernet standard is used as Local Area Network (LAN), which connects workstation with file server.
Work places of users are equipment with IBM-compatible PC and workstation ensures a high quality of operation in Windows 95 environment with software to provide data and documentation flow through LAN. The main IBM compatible PC with 32 RAM and up to 4 GB of disk memory is used as server of LAN and work under Unix. The second PC is used as mail server.

Last year the Armenian National Assembly was connected with the Internet and the information, which is open for public use, is set up in the Internet on www-server (http://www.parliament.am). Actually we formed web page in two languages (Armenian and Russian). And there is an information concerning the Armenian National Assembly such as the information of the organization of the NA of RA, draft agenda, historical elements biographical information of the members of NA and NA' staff etc. Interested persons can access to this information. More important is the connection from the www-server to our databases. Besides we are actually about to provide installation of the appropriate equipment in the Computer Room in the Library, in order to give the possibility to every deputy to access to the Internet. Our www-server is available to all Internet users.

Now not every deputy has work place in NA, but only the members of 6 constant committee have it. In the future after election of professional Parliament (it will take place next year) every deputy will have workroom and necessary equipment.

Information system consisted of PC- based workstations (WS) connected into a LAN and give a possibility for the Members of National Assembly to use this system widely. The services consist of:

• Electronic mail
• Access to Internet
• Law database
• Information on the organization of the NA and of the members of NA
• Working room includes affairs calendar of the National Assembly, the National Assembly's Groups, etc. (coming events, session calendar, so called three days calendar, summary of plenary session, meeting calendar, agenda, declaration, budget, charter)
• National Assembly's affairs register (Records of the state of the issues:
• Preliminary debate, first/second/third reading, decision)
• Library catalogue
• News (database of news)
• Internet www-server

More important is the downloading of the Legislation in the information system. It includes collections, which are tightly connected with the operation of the NA: the adopted acts, the voting results, the resolutions of the NA, the resolutions of the committees of the NA. The law database includes all passing laws and all regulations since 1990 year. And you can see both the laws in final correction and regulations separately. Besides the law database is indexed by controlled keywords and as a result enables a relatively quick and easy search by keywords, or full text search. The program has easy-to-use interface for users (Netscape Browser) and had a good searching instruments. (Automatically search conditions in HTML format).

The main result of the use of the proposed computerized information and analytical systems are as follows:

• Increase of work productivity in legislative and law implementation activities due to the possibility of multiaspect and quick data search and comparison among a great amount of information, collective use of data, implementation of paperless technology of document processing and transmission, simultaneous legislative design work and use of data;
• High rate of data transmission;

In future we are preparing the shorthand reports of the session debates to put all that into the Internet and we also think about collection of CD-ROM library.
